'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his worries.

She explained the man proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
